Who we are
url-to-markdown is a free, open-source tool operated by Kawtar Choubari (choubari.com). It converts any public webpage to Markdown format. The service is available at md.choubari.com.
What data we collect
We collect minimal, anonymised usage data to understand how the service is used:
- Converted URL domains — the hostname of URLs you convert (e.g.
wikipedia.org), not the full URL. We never store the full target URL. - Interaction events — whether you clicked "Copy" or "Share" after a conversion.
- Error events — when a conversion fails (e.g. timeout, invalid URL), to help us improve reliability.
- Referral source — if you arrived via a shared link, we record that a share link was used (no personal data).
We do not collect: your IP address (it is hashed and never stored), the full content of converted pages, or any account or identifying information.
How we collect it
We use PostHog (EU region) to record the events above. PostHog stores data on servers in the European Union. No data is shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
Cookies and local storage
We use localStorage to remember your cookie consent choice and to generate an anonymous session identifier for grouping your own events (e.g. "this user copied the result after sharing"). This identifier is random, not linked to you, and never sent to any external service beyond PostHog event tracking. See our Cookie policy for details.

Because we do not collect any personally identifiable information, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions, contact us at contact@choubari.com.

We may update this policy when the service changes materially. The "last updated" date above will reflect any changes.
